On the 18 July 2022 the meeting of CNR-ISPA and Italian onion producers took place in Lecce. The aim was to find the best feedstocks from agricultural waste and side streams, in this case the waste of onions. This is important for the PHENOLAXA project to discover high value bioactives and functional fibres, create sustainable biorefineries and help so achieve the goal of a circular economy. In the case of the onions, the high value bioactives would be mostly polyphenols that can be used for pharmaceuticals, cosmeceuticals, nutraceuticals and food products.
